Little Prelude LLC (“Little Prelude,” “we,” or “us”) is a New York City service that introduces families to independent artist-caregivers. We are not a childcare provider. The artists we list run their own practices, set their own rates, and are not our employees.
This policy covers both littleprelude.com and our booking platform, where families and artists hold accounts. It explains what information we collect, why, and what we do with it.
We have tried to write this in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. If anything here is unclear, please write to us and ask.
Our waitlist form asks for your name, email address, your neighborhood, your children’s ages, and anything else you choose to tell us. Only your name and email are required.
Membership means creating an account. We collect your name, email address, a password you choose, your neighborhood, and details about the care you are looking for. Your password is stored encrypted and we never see it.
Our application asks for your name, email address, phone number, instrument or discipline, neighborhood, training background, childcare experience, a link to your résumé or portfolio, whether you hold current CPR certification, and your written answers to a few situational questions. Those answers are read by our founder and are used only to decide whether to invite you to interview.
Before you can be listed we collect documents that verify what you have told us: your CPR and First Aid certificate, the result of a background check, and the declaration page of your liability insurance. We record their expiry dates so that we can remind you to renew.
Once you are listed, we also record which families we have introduced you to and what you earn from those introductions, because our fee is calculated from it.
We ask for children’s ages so that we can suggest artists suited to your family. We collect this from you, the parent or guardian, never from a child directly. Our website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Please share only what is necessary. You do not need to give us your children’s full names, schools, or any health information through the website.
When a family pays an artist, the payment runs through our booking platform. We never see or store your full card number. Card details go directly to our payment processor, which is certified to handle them.
What we do see and keep is the record of the transaction: the amount, the date, who paid whom, and whether it succeeded. We need this to calculate our referral fee, to answer questions about a payment, and to keep proper financial records.
Membership renews automatically each year unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account, and we will remind you before each renewal.
Artists who apply are asked to consent to a professional background check before being listed. We will always ask for your written permission first, tell you which company is running it, and share the result with you. You may decline, and we will simply not proceed with listing you.
We keep the fact and date of the check and its outcome. We do not publish it, and we do not share the underlying report with families.
On littleprelude.com we use no cookies, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or analytics. We do not build profiles of visitors and we cannot see which pages you read. Nothing on the marketing site follows you across the internet.
On the booking platform, a small number of cookies are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to keep your session secure. They do nothing else. There is no advertising or cross-site tracking there either.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies, and we will not add you to any mailing list you did not ask to join.
When we introduce you. An introduction means each side sees the other. We give the family the artist’s profile and contact details, and we tell the artist what they need in order to decide whether the match makes sense: typically your neighborhood, your schedule, and your children’s ages. From there you deal with each other directly, and what you choose to share after that is between you.
Every artist we list has agreed in writing to keep family information confidential.
Service providers. We use a small number of established companies to run this service. Each handles your information only in order to provide their service to us:
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to protect a child from harm.
We keep waitlist and inquiry information for as long as you are a prospective or current member, and for a reasonable period afterwards so that we can pick up where we left off if you return.
We keep artist applications for the duration of our review and, for candidates we would like to revisit, for up to two years. For listed artists we keep verification documents for as long as they are listed and for a period afterwards.
Financial records, including payment and fee history, are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is longer than the rest.
You can ask us to delete your information at any time and we will do so, except where we are required to keep records for legal or accounting reasons.

We take reasonable steps to protect the information you give us. The website and the booking platform are served over encrypted connections, passwords are stored encrypted, and our database restricts each account to its own records. Access to inquiries and documents is limited to our founder.
No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure. Please do not email us sensitive documents; where we need something confidential, such as a certificate or an insurance declaration, we will give you a secure way to upload it.
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we hold your information, we will tell you directly.
